Six CEF students at Bishop Ward High School can rest assured that college is a possibility. In addition to thousands of dollars in scholarships from CEF to support their Catholic education, they are the recipients of this year’s KC Scholars traditional scholarships and will receive up to $10,000 per year to support a bachelor’s degree.

Many would be the first in their families to attend college. That’s the case for CEF student and KC Scholars award recipient Juan Lopez De La Cruz. Like many of his peers, Juan’s Catholic education and faith formation at Bishop Ward has been supported by scholarships from the CEF.
“It’s been pretty amazing,” Juan shared with The Leaven. “It shows that my work has been validated, and that, if I do push myself hard enough, it will eventually pay off.”
Bishop Ward College and Career Counselor Mary Kate Kelly said Catholic school students are excellent scholarship candidates, adding that Catholic schools’ focus on the whole person - mind, body and soul - prepares students to succeed in all aspects of their post-secondary life.
“Bishop Ward students care about their future and are dedicated to making their goals a reality,” said Mary Kate. “This makes them excellent scholarship candidates because sometimes the only barrier between students and their goals is financial resources.”
