Catholic Education Foundation scholarship recipient Vicki Simms was recently featured by Topeka news station WIBW for her commitment to community service.
Each year, Hayden Catholic High School awards the Mother Teresa Award to one student from each class who displays three qualifications, an exceptional amount of service hours, a love for service through their reflection essays and going out of their way to serve others.
Throughout her high school career, Simms has completed hundreds of service hours, including returning to the elementary school she attended, Holy Family Catholic School, each summer to paint inspiring murals on doors and bulletin boards. For these efforts, Simms is the proud recipient of two Mother Theresa Awards, making history as the only student to be honored twice since 1998.
Vicki hopes her art will inspire younger students and credits her success and commitment to service to her Catholic education and the CEF scholarships that made it possible for her attend Holy Family and Hayden.
"She donated countless hours of her time on the project at Holy Family and it just shows that she is really willing to give to other people and part of the community and that’s just something that we really value here at Hayden." - Hayden Coordinator of Faith Jared Samson.
