CEF Board Chair RJ Gildea was joined by Archbishop Naumann, Pat and Mel McAnany (gala chairs) and Terry and Peggy Dunn (honorary chairs) on stage after announcing the event raised $3.5 million in scholarship funding.

The 22nd annual Gaudeamus benefit gala was a beautiful outpouring of gratitude and support for Catholic education. Thanks to the generosity of the caring CEF community, the event raised $3.5 million towards scholarships for students most in need at our Catholic schools.

Held at the Overland Park Convention Center on Saturday, October 12th, the 2024 celebration honored the Most Reverend Joseph F. Naumann with the CEF Lifetime Achievement Award.

This year’s Gaudeamus chairs Pat and Mel McAnany presented Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann with the CEF LifetimeAchievement Award.

In his acceptance speech, Archbishop Naumann reflected on his firsthand experience as the son of a Catholic educator. He told guests how parents would approach him when he was a bishop in St. Louis to tell him the impact his mother had made on their lives.

“They wanted to tell me how she had influenced them, not just as a teacher, but as a witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” he said.

The Archbishop thanked the audience for their support and commitment to CEF, emphasizing how their contributions help ensure Catholic schools remain accessible.

“Together, we’re making friends for Jesus Christ, disciples who are going to help change the world, our culture, and society, and be leaders in our church for tomorrow,” he said.

The evening also featured the presentation of the 2024 Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann CEF School of Excellence Award to St. Benedict Catholic School in Atchison and heard inspiring testimonials from students and families who have directly benefited from CEF scholarships.

"This is the opportunity my parents dreamed of for their children when they immigrated to the United States." - Jaime Vega, Bishop Ward High School senior & CEF scholarship recipient

Proceeds from this year's event will help the Catholic Education Foundation support nearly 2,000 students for the 2024-25 school year and establish the new Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Special thanks to this year's Gaudeamus event chairs Pat and Mel McAnany, honorary chairs Terry and Peggy Dunn and the entire Gaudeamus committee for their hard work throughout the year to make the gala a success.

Archbishop Naumann's lifelong friend Msgr. Ted Wojcicki had Gaudeamus guests in stitches with his light-hearted memories of the Archbishop’s remarkable career.
